Message From the Principal

Dear Parents,

Happy New Year! I can’t believe how fast this school year is going. Today I met with some of our future Taper Parents for our Kindergarten Round-up Meeting. I told them how wonderful Taper School is. I shared that you are a huge part of why Taper is such an awesome place for boys and girls to go. Our parent and community support is the best. I proudly introduced our amazing Kindergarten staff and our hardworking PTO president and School Administrative Assistant. I shared that we are a team that works hard to provide a well- rounded program that includes a rigorous academic program as well as art music and drama opportunities for our Taper Tigers. I know that as we head into second semester that you will continue to support your child and our school. I wish all of you a happy and healthy New Year!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Steinbach

Volunteer Program

Volunteering is an integral part of the success of the students here at Taper.  As in any assistance situation, guidelines are established for the participants in order for the program to be successful.

The following guidelines have been approved by Taper’s School Site Council.

  • Volunteer application and TB test result form are available in the main office (TB tests must be done within one year prior to service)
  • Once we receive your completed application and TB test, the office will process and submit to the Parent Community Service Branch (PCSB)
  • Volunteers may begin servicing only when PCSB issues a volunteer ID card and a welcome letter.  Unlike in the past when you were able to volunteer as soon as you submitted your paperwork.
  • All volunteers must have a volunteer form and current TB test on file. (TB tests are good for 4 years.
  • All volunteers must go to the office and sign in prior to volunteering.
  • The length and frequency of the volunteer’s visit must be reasonable and determined by the activity being observed.
  • Discipline is the teacher’s responsibility.
  • All student work and behavior is confidential.
  • Children who are not enrolled at the school are not to be on the campus.
  • As a courtesy, please inform the teacher if you are unable to volunteer at your assigned time.

Notes from the Office

  • If you are bringing a lunch for your child please make sure it is here before lunch starts and your child must know to pick up his/her lunch in the office. We can no longer interrupt classes for lunches. (No fast food please)
  • Volunteers are always welcome at Taper, but must have a current TB test on file at the school.
  • Volunteers must enter through the office and check in with the office staff.
  • After you receive your volunteer badge please bring that with you every time you volunteer.
  • Due to the high number of allergies Taper does not allow food items to be shared for birthdays and special occasions.  Instead of food families are welcomed to bring in items such as books and/or pencils for the students.

Donors Choose

Taper teachers are now part of a program called Donors Choose.  This program allows teachers to have projects they want for their classrooms donated by familes, business, and other members of the community.  Simply go to http://www.donorschoose.com and search for your child's teacher on the left side of the screen.  Many teachers have already had projects donated and paid for.  All Taper families will be receiving a $15 gift card that they can use at this site.  Please log on to Donors Choose and support Taper teachers. Thank you.
