Transitional Kindergarten - 5th grade

At Taper Avenue Elementary & STEAM Magnet, we strive to develop self-directed, creative, and collaborative learners, by providing a robust, balanced, and strong academic program from our talented and dedicated teachers, to ensure that every student's academic, social, and emotional needs are met.

Our school uses and adheres to The Common Core Standards in education and we challenge our students to meet and go above and beyond their academic goals and standards. Taper students receive instruction in Math, English, Science, Physical Ed, Social Studies, Music and Art.  Our students also have access to our school's library and computer-lab at least once a week to participate in a variety of activities and instruction.

Taper is also a School for Advanced Studies (SAS), and receives additional funds to promote differentiated instruction. Teachers receive specialized training through the California Gifted And Talented Education program (GATE). For students who are identified as gifted/high achievers, they receive additional classroom instruction and projects. Gifted students will meet together for ongoing projects and seminars conducted by our classroom teachers.

As a National Blue Ribbon School way back in 1988, to our more recent recognition as an Honor Roll School two years in a row as a leader in student achievement, the increase in student achievement can be attributed to a dedicated teaching staff that has recognized and capitalized upon each individual student's strengths and learning abilities to motivate learners to new and higher levels of goal attainment. We at Taper are confident in our collaborative vision to provide the community with a strong academic program within a safe, friendly, and technology-rich environment that allows all students to reach their fullest potential.
